Christmas is a fantastic time of year, and it makes sense that so many people want their landscaping to match the occasion. Christmas lighting is beautiful and it can give many people a warm feeling. Whether you’re trying to impress the neighbors or you simply want to see something beautiful when you look out your window, a Christmas light display can be very rewarding.

That said, you want to make sure you’re being safe when putting up any displays. Below, we’ll cover a few of the most important Christmas lighting safety tips you should keep in mind. These include being vigilant for overheated extension cords, why you shouldn’t run lights from the inside of your house to the outside, and the importance of knowing when to call in the professionals.

Avoid Overheating Your Extension Cords

Extension cords are a great way of making your outlet more effective, but only up to a point. Overusing an extension cord can lead to overheating, which in turn can lead to an electrical fire.

To avoid this, you want to make sure you’re not plugging too many Christmas lights into the cord. The general rule of thumb is that you shouldn’t use an extension cord for more than three strands of Christmas lights at any point in time. That said, strands and cords vary, so you’ll want to check and see that the combined wattage of all the strands you’re using does not exceed the maximum wattage allowed by the outlet.

Don’t Run Lights From Inside Your House To Outside Your House

Outdoor outlets are essential for most Christmas light displays. If you don’t have any outdoor outlets, you may think you can simply use one of your indoor displays and run it through a door or window. However, it’s imperative that you don’t do this.

If the door or window is accidentally closed with wires running through, the wires may break. This is dangerous and could lead to an electrical fire.

Call Professionals

There are a myriad of different advantages that come from choosing to hire lighting professionals. Alongside the convenience and the amount of time you saved, you should also consider working with professionals for safety reasons.

The more elaborate the display you want, the more potential there may be for danger. That’s why you want to speak with a professional to determine whether or not you can create the display yourself.

Expert Christmas Lighting – Lit Professional Lighting

There’s a lot to love about the holiday season: the feeling of togetherness, the joy of celebration, the happiness on kids’ faces.

However, there’s one question we frequently hear homeowners asking: when’s the right time to start putting up lights for the holiday season? Some people complain of Christmas fatigue, saying that Christmas is less special when we celebrate it for months on end. Others just want to enjoy the holiday how and when they want to.

At the end of the day, it’s up to you to decide when you’d like to see your Christmas lights on your property, but below we’ll let you know some common timeframes.

Wait Until Halloween is Over

The most common piece of advice you’ll hear regarding Christmas light timing is to wait until Halloween is over. After all, you want to make sure your property is properly decorated for any trick-or-treaters. As well, it’s hard to get in the holiday spirit when everyone around you is in more of a spooky mood.

Specific Dates to Keep in Mind

Most people say to wait until at least the second or third week of November until installing your Christmas lights. This gives you enough time to take down the Halloween decorations and put up the Christmas decorations.

If you’d prefer, you may also choose to wait until after Thanksgiving.

You Should Put Christmas Lights Up When They’ll Make You Happy

Ultimately, Christmas is about celebrating the joys of life. This means you should put the lights up when they make you happy.

Above we’ve provided typical etiquette rules, but some people like celebrating Christmas in July. Some people even put up Christmas lights to make their children happy during quarantine. Assuming there aren’t any homeowner’s association rules you’d be breaking, determine what would make you happiest and do that.

When Should You Request an Estimate For Christmas Tree Light Installation?

While the decision of when to put up lights is a matter of personal preference, when you should ask for an estimate isn’t. It’s important to keep in mind that lighting companies often have repeat customers every year, and these customers may have already claimed a large portion of their time during the holiday season.

We recommend asking for this estimate in September or October. While it may seem silly to ask before the Halloween season is over, this ensures that a professional lighting company will have time available on their schedule.

Looking for a Free Christmas Tree Lighting Estimate in Houston, Texas?

If so, you’ve come to the right place. At Lit Professional Lighting, we’ve been helping Texan homeowners put up there Christmas lights for years. Whether this is a special holiday for you or you just want to appreciate the beauty of a well-designed lighting display, we’re here for you.

Creating a great Christmas lights display in Conroe, TX can be a fun and competitive task.

But what can you do to make your Christmas light installation look better than the rest? Take a look at some of these helpful tips to turn your home into Winter Wonderland.

Your Conroe Christmas Lights Display

If you take a drive through nearby neighborhoods to take in the holiday lighting, you’ll likely identify two types of homes. One of these is a landscape that has haphazard lights and decorations that results in a blinding blur of gaudiness.

The other type of home is the one that has their holiday decorating down pat. There’s a few key techniques utilized to bring a home a pleasant and attractive cohesiveness when it comes to their Christmas lights display.

A Unique or Personalized Theme

What are you trying to celebrate with your lights during the Christmas season? A standard display with typical Christmas colors can do just fine if you’re looking for simplicity. But you could also use it as an opportunity to create something that tells the neighborhood something about you or your family.

You could highlight a particular interest, your favorite sports team, or something else personal to you. Whatever your vision is, stick to the theme and create ideas that you can then implement.

Plan Where Your Lights Will Go

Once you’ve selected your theme and planned what you will want to make, it’s time to create a blueprint. This will allow you to create a visualization of what your ideas will look like when actually applied to your home or lawn. You’ll be able to spot any unforeseen issues and make the necessary adjustments before you commit to purchasing.

If you’re unable to come up with effective solutions on your own, consider recruiting the help of a professional landscape light installation company that has the tools and experience. They’ll be able to suggest alternatives so that you can realize your dream lights display.

Install Your Lights and Decorations

The actual installation will hopefully be made simpler with your careful planning. Once you’ve purchased your lights and tools, it’s time to see what it really looks like.

First and foremost, take every precaution you can to keep yourself safe while climbing ladders or standing on your roof, especially if you encounter snow or ice. Avoid overreaching, make sure your ladder is locked and stable, and prioritize your safety and balance over everything else.

Second, avoid nailing or stapling your lights into fixtures. Even if the initial break doesn’t impact the light strand, continued friction and wet weather can create a short. At best, this can cut power to a light strand, and at worst, create sparks or surges that can lead to bigger problems. Properly fasten all of your light strands or electronic decorations to a fixture without damaging the strand or your home.

Finally, consider installing timers to conserve power or create a more dynamic display. You can set different strands to illuminate in different intervals, creating more of a light show as opposed to static illumination.

LiT Professional Lighting – Conroe, TX

If you’re new to holiday lighting, you may be wondering what the difference is between C6, C7, and C9 Christmas lights. These identifiers refer to the bulb sizes and shape, and possible wattage.

We’re going to help you break down the differences between each of the light types and whether you should use led lights or incandescent lights. We’ll also explain what light bulbs we use at Lit Professional Lighting and why.

C6, C7, and C9 Christmas Lights – The Differences

C6 Christmas Lights

These are the smallest lights that still have that traditional Christmas bulb shape. The only size smaller are mini icicle lights which have a thin, pointed shape in comparison.

C6 lights (the C stands for cone Size) are generally ¾” round and 1 â…›” tall. They have bulbs designed to illuminate Christmas trees or smaller pieces on your property. They can be used for perimeter lighting when placed strategically and densely, but ultimately don’t burn as bright as larger options.

C7 Christmas Lights

C7 lights are the same shape as C6 lights, but larger. They are a full 1″ round and 1.5″ tall. They are fairly versatile and can work well on medium to large outdoor trees. C7 bulbs typically burn at about 5 watts per bulb and make a great light source for your property’s holiday lighting.

C9 Christmas Lights

C9 bulbs are Lit Professional Lighting’s light of choice. They still maintain the shape of C6, and C7 lights, but are the largest yet. They are 1 ¼” round and 2.5″ tall, a full inch taller than the C7.

C9 light wattage can be up to twice as powerful as C7 lights. Due to their power, they are commonly used for commercial purposes, and really illuminate roofing and larger parts of your landscaping. We shoot for quality, and that’s why we use C9 lights to light your home brighter than any other house on the block!

Incandescent or LED Christmas Lights?

We previously broke down some of the major differences between the two light types. To summarize, an LED string will utilize less power, but burn less brightly in return. Incandescent lights can burn very bright. Just take care with this option as they get very warm.

Whether you choose LED or incandescent bulbs, they’ll fit into the same strand so long as the size matches accordingly. This comes in handy if you’re looking to test out both bulb types to see what you prefer.

C9 Christmas Light Installation – Lit Professional Lighting

If you’re interested in the quality, high-powered brightness from our C9 lights, use Lit Professional Lighting this holiday. It’s not too late to decorate your home and lawn to show your festive spirit. Let us swoop in and give your home the best lighting decorations on the block.

To get your home illuminated for the holidays, don’t hesitate to call Lit Professional Lighting at (281)-961-0781. We’ll outline roofs, gutters, flowerbeds, doorways, and more. Call today to light up your home!

Are you contemplating options for your Christmas Lights Installation in Houston? The holiday season is a joyous time for celebration and expressing it through lighting and decoration is all part of the entertainment. However, the process of acquiring and hanging working lights is an undertaking that comes with risks and pitfalls.

What Are My Options for Christmas Light Installation in Houston?

The good news is that there are experts at home lighting like those at Lit Professional Lighting who can satisfy your holiday celebration needs. Here are a variety of reasons as to why you should step back, relax, and let a professional lighting company get your home lit.

Safety

While Houston is generally free of the inclement winter weather conditions that other regions face, such as snow or ice, climbing on the roof is never a risk-free task. Working with tangled lights while climbing ladders and walking and reaching on an uneven surface is a safety risk. Even after you’ve installed your lights, you still might have to return to address dead bulbs.

Maintaining Your Lights

Everyone deals with the frustration of Christmas lights, whether hanging them outside or around the tree. You work for a significant amount of time only to realize several bulbs have burnt out and the bulbs or entire strand needs replacing. Professional installers will attend to any mishaps or issues with your lights so that you don’t have to worry about it.

Tailor-Made Designs

Looking to do something different with your Christmas lights? If your ambition is to have the most eye-catching Christmas display in your neighborhood, you’ll want to turn to a professional lighting company’s expertise. They’ll have seen a variety of different setups, which may even help you get ideas for your display.

Removal and Time-Management

We all have busy lives, which include daily work hours or families to attend to. Our schedules ramp up even more so around the holidays to reach deadlines before taking off for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and the new year. Any extra time includes shopping, cooking, and making possible travel arrangements to accommodate yourself and loved ones for the occasion. You deserve to enjoy the time you do get on the holidays and don’t need to worry about the laborious task of taking everything down once it’s over. They’ll test your lights and carefully gather, sort, and store them for you when the celebrations are over.

Professional Quality

Lighting companies will decorate your home with the highest quality lights for Christmas time. The products they provide will burn brighter and last you for the season without worry. They can also add additional customization to make your decorations seem more vibrant or fuller than what you will find at a regular store.

If you’re thinking about what to do for your needs regarding Christmas light installation in Houston, Texas, look no further than Lit Professional Lighting.

SHOULD I INSTALL LED OR INCANDESCENT CHRISTMAS LIGHTS

Many people question the need or reason for using LED vs Incandescent when it comes toChristmas light Installationon their home or business. There is no correct answer, rather what is more suitable for the project at hand. First lets talk about the key differences between the two.

Efficiency

LED bulbs are 8-9 times more efficient

LED C9 bulbs use .8 watts of power where as Traditional incandescent bulbs use 7w watts

That being said you can connect together 8-9 times the amount of LED together as you would with the traditional incandescent bulbs.

It is normal to connect up to 125 incandescent bulbs on a single lights strand, totaling 875 watts.

With LED you can connect nearly 1,100 LED bulbs on a single lights strand, totaling 880 watts.

More practical for very Christmas light Installation projects with several hundreds – thousands of feet needed.

Color

Most assume ALL LED are a light blue / cool white color, which is untrue.

Customer demand has driven technology to develop an LED bulb which resembles the color of a traditional incandescent bulb.

A traditional incandescent bulb burns at a temperature of about 2700K, which is defined as warm white.

What people might not realize is that LED can come in a variety of different colors. Warm White, Pure White, and Cool White being the 3 most popular.

If you like the look of a traditional incandescent bulb, you should request to have Warm White LED product when shopping forChristmas light Installation

Pictured Below is our Incandescent vs LED christmas lights, can you tell which is which?

Incandescent vs LED C9
Christmas Light Installation in Houston By LiT Professional Lighting

Longevity

LED bulbs are rated to last 60,000 Hours

Incandescent Bulbs are rated to last 3,000 hours

Reliability

LED bulbs are made of durable shatter free plastic

Incandescent Bulbs are made of a thin glass which shatters easy

When hiring LiT Professional Lighting forChristmas light Installation, its always nice knowing LED product wont fail as fast as the Incandescnt.

Cost

LED technology is newer and better, which means more expensive.

Is it worth it to invest in a more expensive product? Knowing LED will reduce electric consumption, last longer, and break less?

There is no correct answer of Incandescent vs LEDChristmas light Installation. Incandescent is cheaper, better for smaller jobs, and has a classic look. LED is more durable, efficient, and expensive, allowing for a long lasting, quality installation.

If you are like most of us getting ready for the holidays, then you are probably dreading putting up Christmas lights. But luckily, we will help you out with some choice tips on how to get ready to put up Christmas lights like a professional.

How to Set Up Christmas Lights

Measure the Roof

The first thing you need to do is measure your roof. You need to ensure that you are getting the right length of string lights necessary to fully illuminate the house or you’re causing problems for yourself from going back and forth.

Get the Lights

Next, you need to go and find the lights that will work best for your house. For some people that means nothing more than simply white or yellow, drop or globe, LED or Classic style.

Light it Up

Next, you need to secure your ladder before ascending the roof properly. Be careful because this is the deadliest part of working.

Next, you want to keep a hammer and nail or invest in a hook system for stringing up your lights.

Assemble all the lights appropriately then dangle the connector at the bottom and test the lights out.

Hire a Professional

But you can skip all of this hustle and ensure you have a safe Christmas by hiring a Christmas lighting company. We have extensive experience helping put peoples holiday lighting and can safely assure you that your house will be the best looking one on the block!

Thanksgiving is right around the corner, and if you’re like many Americans, you probably didn’t know that and might be having a minor freakout right now.

We’re not going to help you figure out how to make Thanksgiving dinner, but we will help you figure out how to decorate for Thanksgiving.

4 Ways to Decorate for Thanksgiving

Leaf String Lights

One of the most popular ways to decorate for Thanksgiving is with the string lights that are autumn leafs. This help establishes the season while also emanating a beautiful light for all to see.

Pumpkins and Pilgrims

Next, we have pumpkins and pilgrims. Everyone likes both of these so bringing ornaments, and lawn ornaments will always help out in the long run. Try to stack a few pumpkins at the front door and a few pilgrim garden gnomes on the lawn.

Light Shows!

If you have projectors and slides, it’s a great opportunity to expand with light shows. You can cast shadows on the walls or your windows showing seasonal favorites for Thanksgiving.

Some ideas can be anything from pumpkins and pilgrims to Thanksgiving dinners and overspilling cornucopias.

Rustic Candles

Additionally, for those who want a touch of the true origin of the holiday. Try using some rustic candles around the house. These can provide some authentic pilgrim lighting in a way that doesn’t require you to turn off the A/C to prove a point about how things are better now.

Halloween Decorations should be Scary.

You can go online and find dozens of cheap and cutesy ways of Halloween Decoration. If you want to be safe, then read the first one on our list, and that’s the best we’re going to do for you.

But when it comes to Halloween lighting, it’s the only time during the year where you’re allowed to venture off into things that are truly unnerving and scary. This is what we are celebrating, the conquering of fears and the elaboration of myths.

So we’ve got three scenarios and one cutesy idea for Halloween decorations.

Our Low-Cost Ideas for Halloween Decoration

Floating Jug-O-Lanterns – First off, this is incredibly easier, you need yarn, a permanent marker, water jugs, and a little led light. Empty the jugs do smaller amounts of water to create traction, drop an LED light in there and draw a face on the jug. Then string the jug up against your door as a counterweight, and if you work the water right, they should swing or pivot against each other.

S̩ance Gone Wrong РThis is my personal favorite. You will need an old blanket, some charcoal (new or old, depending on your tastes,) a couple of muted candles and some fake blood.

Cut a hole in the center of the old blanket and place it on the ground, then drop your charcoals in the center of the torn hole and spatter fake blood on the corner away from your front door. Then pull the corresponding corner in towards the charcoal, next knock over some candles that are on the way to the house’s door, and you’ve got a scary scene for all to see.

Open Door – Possibly the lowest-cost scare you can do. Turn off all the lights in your home and open the door. Keep a bowl of candy well in front of the door, so people know the candy is right there and not to traverse further. The concept of a giant black spot staring down at you is terrifying.

Patient Dedication – Check out your local thrift shop and find some old, oversized clothes, and an old chair for cheap. Then go to the costume store and get some straw and an oversized hat. Turn yourself into a scarecrow and sit in front of your house stark still and add some believable slump.

Leave the candy bowl just a little bit in front of you and pepper in some boo’s to really throw off the kiddies.
